Day 22 – One Teaching – Duality
Good is better recognized when compared to bad. Yet, we know quite well that there is no such thing as good without bad. Either/or is not reality.

Oneness is a an incredibly relevant topic right now. Yesterday a new President was inaugurated. It doesn’t matter to me what your political beliefs are and this blog ain’t gonna go there, but I trust we can all agree that the people of our nation appear to be divided.
As I move through the activity of life, there are signs that reinforce this message and I find them all around me. It is my intention to share these messages with you.
We all know people with fixed mindsets and others with growth mindsets. The reality is that most of us, at times, can demonstrate both.
If you’ve taken a Yoga class, chances are you’ve been asked to chant “OM” as part of the experience. I’m guessing that most people just accept that this is a part of the tradition and don’t necessarily question its meaning.
I’ve never had any trouble writing goals in other categories of life, but I’ve always felt a little lost writing spiritual goals.
On this journey called life, no one else can experience our consciousness for us. We can follow the crowd or we can think for ourselves.
What differentiates man from animals is our ability to think beyond percepts through abstraction and the formation of concepts. Apple is a word, but the word is not the thing itself.
In our one universe, there is plenty of room for both science and spirituality together in harmony. Discussions of the “One Teaching” would not be complete without a review of neuroscience!
Tao Te Ching was written by Lao-tzu thousands of years ago and is the foundation of Taoism. The title translates from Chinese to, “The Book of the Way”.
Yesterday we discussed four stages in the sequence of personal growth including survival, stability, success, and significance. The question was posed as to whether significance is the final destination or if there is something beyond, in other words, transcendence. One of the descriptions of significance that I found online and mentioned yesterday, called it a …
In the world of personal development, there is a path that each of us must follow, with definite milestones to mark our growth. The sequence along this path includes survival, stability, success, and significance.
The ancient Hindus introduced mankind to the chakras which represent centers of energy within the body. Curiously, the chakra system seems to point to all the same concepts that Maslow discovered through his research and resulting hierarchy of needs.
Social media attempts to fulfill the basic human needs of love/belonging and esteem. When we post something and others respond, it feels good. Are the effects lasting?
In 1943, Abraham Maslow wrote a paper called A Theory of Human Motivation where he shares what motivates us. In our discussions of the “One Teaching,” I find these conclusions to be quite interesting.
Growing up I used to love The Wizard of Oz. I dearly loved all the characters, but especially the Tin Man. All he really wanted was to have a heart.
Love does not have to be a drunken feeling of carefree bliss. As a man who grew up in the 80s, that state of being does not seem to fit together with the strong, confident, and macho role models I had.
Music can help bring our bodies, hearts and minds together through great lyrics combined with the visceral experience of musical notes and harmonies as the penetrate us.
How is it that unconnected societies around the world all share similar stories? The characters and their journey’s may vary, but the message behind them all seem to point in the same direction.
The internet seems to be an infinite source of information that we can search quickly for access to just about anything we want to know. The unconscious has always existed and was certainly there before the cloud and the internet.
I like to think of the unconscious as a larger part of “the whole” and consciousness is a small window that gives us access to it. We know through science that the spectrum of light is vast, yet there is only a very small slice that is visible to the human eye.
“There is and always has been only one spiritual teaching.” This quote by Eckhart Tolle in the Power of Now resonates deeply within me. What is that one teaching?
Each of us are born with a light inside of us. It’s always there. But over time we begin to allow our light to become covered up. After years and years of searching and asking questions, I know mine is still aflame inside of me. Friends, your light is still there inside of you too.
Its Halloween, which is the day of the dead. Does that mean bodiless souls or soulless bodies? Zombies or ghosts? What would you rather be?
