Today we take a musical break from the heady. Oneness is about connecting with the soul, which means finding ours and feeling it how it flows into the soul of the universe. We can’t do that through analysis. Trust me, as an analytical person I’ve discovered this one the hard way!
Whenever I think about the word soul, the song “I Like It (Like That)” by Pete Rodriquez pops into my head. I can hear it now, “I got soul, I got soul!” When you listen to this song, without letting your head get in the way, you can really feel the music and it just makes you want to move your body. Why does this happen? It’s a sensual song. The words and the music together make us want to feel and move. Watching the video adds a visual element when you see people dancing in the streets, free from all judgment.
Apparently, this genre of music is called Boogaloo. It’s a Latin R&B and was popular in the 1960s according to Wikipedia, which says that Boogaloo, “was a fusion of popular African American rhythm and blues and soul music with mambo and son montuno.” Soul music seems appropriate for this blog. Enjoy this music video by Pete Rogriguez today and if no one is looking, feel free to “shake it” a little. Escape from the ego for a few minutes and try to answer the question… Have you got soul?
