Children are suffering. People pass judgments. Is protection of our individual egos worth the survival of mankind? The human mind has developed this ego which protects our individual identities. This separation of mind and spirit has reached a pinnacle and it is time for us to bring them back together. When our Buddha nature arrives, there will be peace. You see, we can’t hide forever, so, “let’s get together and feel alright.”
This is my shorthand interpretation of the lyrics to Bob Marley’s song, “One Love.” A One Teaching blog series would not be complete without inclusion of this great song. I’ve been listening and relaxing to this song for years dating back to high school. Back then it was the reggae rhythm that I enjoyed usually while connecting with friends. Now, years later, it’s the meaning behind the lyrics that I’ve come to appreciate. Bob Marley wrote this song in the 1960’s during a period of political unrest. In that sense, I think it’s fair to say that not much has changed since then. We haven’t fully embraced this teaching yet.
We’ve touched on philosophy, psychology and religion throughout this blog. We’ve also incorporated pop culture and music. Music is so important because it brings us into alignment as both an emotional and intellectual experience. Bob Marley’s words are simple but true. It’s easy to pass judgment and dismiss a song like this one as lacking depth because we might associate reggae music more with hippie culture and mind-altering substances than with a spiritual teaching of oneness. But then that’s kind of the point here, isn’t it? The present moment, the hero’s journey, love……these are ingredients in every man’s life.
It’s Saturday. Relax and enjoy, “One Love” by Bob Marley.
