A little over two years ago, I started a journaling habit thanks to Julia Cameron and her book, The Artist’s Way. One of my favorite parts of my morning routine, and a huge catalyst for my own growth along the path of personal mastery, is reading my entries from one year ago. On this day last year, I was feeling a creativity inspired by Julia Cameron’s right brain teachings. I decided to write about the color blue, which happens to be my favorite color. It was a bit out of character for me, but now as I look back with the context of oneness, can feel the words penetrate my soul. It seemed appropriate to share here.
The color blue brings me joy. In many instances, you can only see blue from far away and when you try to get close it vanishes. Water, ice and sky, in their vastness, can all be seen through many shades of blue. Yet if you try to bottle them, the blue disappears. When the sun shines on the waters of the Caribbean, we see a transparency with a simultaneous reflection of beautiful shades of calming blue. Lack of sunshine leaves dark blue water that feels cold and harsh such as we might imagine in the North Atlantic on a stormy day in winter. Either way, if we try to scoop up the water with our hands, blue is nowhere to be found. In North Carolina where I live, the sky is said to be Carolina Blue. Yet we can travel high into the atmosphere and never reach a blue that can be touched. Blue surrounds us everywhere, but it cannot be captured.
My soul is blue and I think yours might be too. Blue surrounds us. Maybe that’s why I love the color blue so much. When the sun is shining, blue is vibrant and beautiful. Without bright, warm sunlight, blue is cold and dark. The sun is love and love is the sun. Love helps us see one another’s beautiful, vibrant blue souls. Your love has this power. If you choose to withhold your love, what you’ll see is the cold, mysterious blue of the deep, dark ocean. But when love is present, our souls come out for the world to see. Show your light and love and you will see me, I will see you and the world will be beautiful in blue.
